I was fine. I slept okay. There were dreams, but I just put them out of my mind.

When I got up the next morning, I ignored the fact that my dad’s eyes were red, like he’d been crying. He was getting worse, not better, as we got closer to Sunday. To the second year anniversary of my mom’s death. But I had to put that out of my mind, too.

I had to put a lot of things out of my mind. It was getting to be a habit.

I saw Jake in the hallway at school. I pretended not to notice him.

I saw Rachel, too. She had a dark look in her eyes. Like she hadn’t slept. Like something was really wrong.

Even Cassie seemed grim. It had gotten to all of us. It’s not so easy to just forget terror. It’s not easy to just ignore the memory of your leg being ripped off. Of being dismembered. Torn apart.

One of these days, I thought, one of us is going to go crazy. Totally, lock-me-up-in-a-rubberroom nutso. It was too much. This wasn’t how life was supposed to be.

One of us would snap. One of us would lose it. It could happen, even to strong people.

I knew.

celynbrum: talewii: okay I remember that the Yeerks were convinced that the Animorphs were all Andalites but like… didn’t they get a little suspicious when only one of them was ever actually seen as an Andalite? Knowing Andalites and the Yeerk view of Andalites (which is, to be fair, actually pretty accurate)? Nope. Because Andalites would… Continue reading

Thoughts on Andalite PR

citizenpublius: The Andalites are like the biggest Karma Houdinis of this series. The entire series, of course, it about dealing with Yeerk imperialism, but the Andalites are largely allowed to get away with the colonization of their own. The Yeerks, were, after all, the by-product of an attempted Andalite “uplift” of another species. Before the… Continue reading Thoughts on Andalite PR

On the Ending of Animorphs

citizenpublius: Or: What Animorphs got right that Harry Potter got wrong. Obvious massive spoilers ahead: So I flashed through the last three books in the series, and I have to say, even knowing what was coming, having read this series back as a teen, I really wasn’t prepared. It’s one thing to read this series… Continue reading On the Ending of Animorphs

citizenpublius: Can we talk tho about how after the war, the grateful people of Earth pretty much made a Cult of the Main Six Animorphs? While the Animorphs themselves (except for maybe Marco) don’t necessarily encourage this, we see how the people of Earth idealized their actions and seemed to either not notice their flaws… Continue reading
