You know… Costco has a pharmacy if you REALLY want to stock up.
Plan B only works reliably for people under 160lbs. Ella is more effective for folks over 160lbs and works up to five day after intercourse. Both are OTC medications.
fyi: ella is not available over the counter. you will need a prescription for ella. in some states, your pharmacist will be able to prescribe you ella–check yours here. in some states, you will need to see a doctor or nurse practitioner.
if you are over 160 pounds and unable to get to a doctor for ella, you can take plan b. there are studies that suggest that it may be less effective, but it won’t hurt to take it (beyond the general risk of side effects from plan b). ella may actually be more effective for people under 160 pounds as well, particularly if it has been longer than 2-3 days since intercourse. ella may be effective up to 5 days after intercourse.
in a pinch, you can also try taking certain regular bc pills in a large dose as an emergency contraceptive–check the recommended dosage here.
having a copper iud inserted within 5 days of intercourse is also an effective method of emergency contraceptive, if that’s something that you are interested in & able to get.
