actual relevant job advice for a lot of people (including me)
1. Did you do any technical work during your recovery, even if you weren’t paid for it? If so, list it on your resume in the work history section along with the name of the organization.
EX: Computer troubleshooting and installation, Friendly Church of Chicago, 2003-present
2. Were you involved in any personal or family projects (paid or unpaid) that are relevant to your job objective?
EX: Software instructor and troubleshooter (project work), Chicago, IL
3. Did you take any classes or work on your professional development, online or through brick-and-mortar schools?
EX: Student, Computer Science, ABC College, Chicago, IL
4. Was there any other activity during that time that shows good character and your presence in society, even if it isn’t related to your job objective?
EX: Full-time parent
5. If the answer to all of the above is ‘No,“ and the only thing you were doing for the last six years was medical treatment (perhaps you were in a facility and didn’t participate in any classes or activities), try this:
EX: Caregiver for family member (now recovered), Chicago, IL
(This last approach is true, in the sense that you are a member of your family. If pressed in an interview, you can refer to it discreetly without stating who the family member is.)
